What Is Mould?
Mould, Sometimes known as mildew, is a type of fungus that can grow in damp or wet areas. Mould usually can appear as black spots on ceilings, walls or other surfaces and can spread to other areas of the house if left untreated.
Mould thrives in humid climates and it is common to find in bathrooms, under floors, ceiling cavities, and other areas where moisture levels may be high. Mould can cause breathing problems, such as asthma, and some people may experience skin irritation and other allergic reactions. It is important to eliminate the environment and prevent mould from growing in your home by controlling humidity levels and cleaning regularly.
What Causes Mould To Grow?
Mould needs moisture to grow. No moisture = No growth! Mould also needs food, oxygen and a warm temperature (similar needs to humans). Mould has the ability grow on many surfaces around the home such as wood, gib board, wallpaper and carpet.
While mould cannot feed off inorganic material such as concrete, glass and metal, it can however grow on dirt, debris or hairs that are on/in these surfaces.
